Heavy rainfall in Xuan’en County, Enshi, Hubei Province, has caused serious flooding, according to CCTV News. By Monday evening, 3 people had died and 4 others were missing, while rescue and relief work continued.
The Baishui River rose quickly after the area received 292.6 mm of rain from Sunday to Monday. Several riverside homes were flooded, some buildings collapsed, and local roads and communication networks were damaged.
Authorities in Enshi and Xuan’en launched emergency operations, sending police, firefighters, medical teams, transport crews, power workers, and communication teams to the affected areas. So far, 287 residents have been evacuated.
More heavy rain is expected across Central and Eastern China, with an orange rainfall alert issued for several provinces.
