On June 29, Shanghai Pudong Airport unveiled eight new service initiatives for the summer travel season, including the launch of 24-hour customs clearance for international and regional departures.
This summer, the airport will also open its first batch of 13 airport rest pods and 11 shower rooms to better serve transit and overnight passengers.
The eight service upgrades are as follows:
1.Minimum Connecting Time (MCT) Optimization
In collaboration with inspection authorities, Pudong Airport is working to reduce minimum connecting times, enabling more efficient transit and the development of new connecting flight products.
2.24/7 Customs Clearance
Following the launch of 24-hour domestic customs clearance in May, the airport will extend this service to international and regional departures starting July 1. Customs, immigration, and security checkpoints in these zones will operate around the clock. Additional services include 24-hour tax refund processing, self-service check-in, and baggage drop — making it possible for international travelers to clear procedures and access departure gates at any time.
3.Seamless Transit Support
Transit passengers can enjoy various rest facilities, including newly launched airport rest pods and shower rooms, ensuring comfort and convenience between flights.
4."PuLe GO" Mini Program
The airport's digital mini program connects travelers to over 200 retail and dining outlets. Passengers can place orders by scanning QR codes, with delivery available directly to the boarding gate. In the future, robot delivery services will also be introduced.
5.Overnight Rest Zones ("Late Night Stop")
Special overnight rest areas are now available for passengers waiting for late-night or early-morning flights. These zones offer charging stations, vending machines, 24-hour convenience stores, and extended restaurant hours. Available across multiple terminals and departure zones, the spaces are equipped with sofas and recliners.
6.Flight Delay Dining Program
In partnership with 11 airlines, Pudong Airport has replaced the standard "comfort meal box" with meal vouchers. These can be used at over 100 dining outlets in the airport, giving passengers more flexible and enjoyable options during delays.
7.Lost-and-Found Fast Track
A new platform jointly operated by the airport, airlines, and public security services allows passengers to quickly search for and claim lost items online, then pick them up on-site after confirmation.
8.Pet-Friendly Boarding ("Travel with Pets")
Special check-in counters and designated pet channels ensure a smooth and stress-free boarding process for pet owners, allowing passengers and their pets to stay together through the journey. Airlines currently supporting this service at Pudong Airport include China Eastern, China Southern, Juneyao Airlines, and Spring Airlines.
