At Harrow Shanghai, we’ve always believed strongly that A-Levels represent the ‘gold standard’ of post-16 education. Highly respected by universities worldwide, A-Levels allow students to explore their passions in extraordinary depth and detail, equipping them with the knowledge, understanding, and skills to be successful undergraduates.

Dr Sharples

Head of Chemistry

Dr Sharples, our Head of Chemistry, describes an A-Level education as a key step in moving from being a generalist to becoming a specialist, and he’s quite right: we’ve known universities in the United States, for example, to offer students extra credit for the A-Levels they have completed, such is the academic rigour with which they are associated.

Over the years, we have consistently ranked as one of the top performing A-Level schools in China, and our results compare favourably even to the most competitive schools in the UK.

Miss Titterton

Head of Humanities

One of the reasons for this, as Miss Titterton, our Head of Humanities, explains, is that the ingredients for our ‘end goal’ – top exam results – are deeply embedded into our curriculum. The same teachers who are delivering our A-Level courses are also teaching classes lower down the school – I have taught A-Level History for fifteen years but I’ve also taught Humanities in Year 6 – which means we know the direction in which we’re taking our students and are able to build, over time, the competencies needed to create outstanding A-Level learners.

Harrow Shanghai benefits significantly from the ‘institutional memory’ that comes with so many years of guiding students to A-Level success.

Ms Cui Edwards

Head of Sixth Form

As Ms Cui Edwards, our Head of Sixth Form, points out, our combined experience, our understanding of historical patterns and trends, and our knowledge of the common mistakes and misconceptions that can sometimes catch learners out, allows us to steer our students in the right direction. And the results speak for themselves: we have enjoyed consistently outstanding academic outcomes and our students routinely make successful applications to top-tier universities around the world.

We have been assisted in this endeavour by our connection to the wider AISL Family of Schools, on whose expertise we can draw, as well as our small A-Level class sizes, which allow students to develop very close, nurturing relationships with their teachers, and grow under their advice and guidance.

Ms Williams

Head of Creative Art

Ms Williams, our Head of Creative Art, explains how, at Harrow Shanghai, we empower students to find their voice and pursue their own path.

Over the past ten years, we’ve built a Sixth Form characterised by warmth, love, and care, as well as academic excellence, and I’m very proud of our track record, working alongside their families, in supporting our students to achieve their goals.

If you would like to learn more about Harrow Shanghai’s A-Level programme, academic excellence, and university destinations, we warmly invite you to join the Harrow ShanghaiOpen Day on Saturday, 23 May.
