A 19-year-old Chinese night market vendor has become an online sensation after gaining attention for selling fried rice while dressed in a formal suit.

The young man, surnamed Lu, runs a fried rice stall in Yantai, Shandong province, in eastern China. According to local media reports, he started the business when he was only 17 years old and has since become an important financial support for his family.

What made Lu stand out was not only his food, but also his style. One day, he decided to wear a suit while cooking because he wanted to look more “decent” and professional. The unexpected outfit quickly became part of his image, turning an ordinary fried rice stall into a viral online attraction.

Lu’s cooking style is full of personality. While working in front of the hot wok, he often flips the pan with confidence, poses for the camera, slicks back his hair, winks, and even catches eggs thrown by his family before adding them to the dish. His energetic and stylish movements have helped him gain a strong following on social media.

Many online users compare him to Sanji, the fashionable chef from the Japanese anime One Piece. Lu has also used the hashtag “Sanji fried rice” on his videos, which has helped strengthen the comparison and attract even more attention.

His stall operates daily from around 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. During peak hours, Lu says he can prepare one portion of fried rice in about three minutes. He often works for hours without resting, serving long lines of customers who come for both the food and the performance.

According to Lu, the stall sells more than 200 portions of fried rice a day. Each serving costs about 10 yuan, or roughly US$1.50. He said the business can generate around 50,000 yuan, approximately US$7,400, in monthly revenue. After deducting costs, the stall reportedly earns around 20,000 yuan in monthly profit.

Some netizens questioned whether the numbers were realistic, saying the calculation did not seem to add up. In response, Lu explained that he sometimes cooks several portions at once during busy periods. He also live-streamed his stall operations to show viewers how the business works in real time.

Lu said his father helps with food preparation so that he can focus more on cooking and entertaining customers. His father also sometimes helps cook at the stall when needed.

Although many people first visit out of curiosity, Lu believes the taste of his fried rice is what keeps customers coming back. He said the suit was originally just a way to bring “some romance” to the busy night market atmosphere, but he never expected it to receive so much attention.

The young vendor has not shared detailed plans for the future, but he has already started accepting apprentices, suggesting that his viral fried rice business may continue to grow.

Online reactions have been full of praise and curiosity. Some people said he looks just like Sanji, while others said they want to visit Shandong just to see him cook in person. One commenter joked that people may be watching his videos not only for the fried rice, but also for his looks.

Lu’s story has become more than just a viral food trend. For many people, it shows how creativity, hard work, and personal style can turn a simple night market stall into a memorable brand.
