The timeless dog needs no further introduction, so cutting to the chase (chasing tails, that is), here's where to head when that dawg craving hits.
1. Rooster

2. RIINK

Over at RIINK, the Hallway Hotdog (RMB48) may well be the perfect option for a break between roller-circuits.
They claim it's the most underrated dog in the city, heaped with both kraut and caramelized onions, and we can agree that for a classic kraut-doggie-dog this is prime time.
You can circle back for this one any night.

3. BnC

Bar food in this town keeps getting better, and that's exactly the case at the gorgeously renovated, quiz-gaming, booze-running, dog-slinging heaven that is Jing'an's BnC.
The Chili Dog (RMB68) commands the room— unless it's being overtaken by the quiz crowd on Wednesday nights and Sunday brunches—but quizzing and dogging can co-exist (woof!), so it's always a good night at BnC.
Grab a dog and a Guiness to try to split the G for a free pint!

4. Parlay

For something really special you have to stay on the ball (sorry we had to), because Parlay isn't giving up the goods just every day.

5. Lucky Mart

There are three dogs on the Lucky menu, at RMB40 each, including a vegan option: the Classic Ballpark Dog.
"Vegan Hot Dog!" you shriek in horror? "Save us from the shame!"
Don't speak too soon—rather put that mouth to the test, because the vegan dog is actually freakin' bomb.
It slaps like a real meat doggie, covered in ketchup, mustard, jalapenos, pickles and crispy potato sticks.
Back to the beef: the Curry Cheese uses Japanese curry sauce, while the Okonomiyaki Hot Dog is also served in true Land of the Rising Sun style with bonito flakes, furikake, slaw, tonkatsu sauce and Kewpie mayo.

6. FENRIR

When you think of a dark metal bar, you might not think of hot dogs. But here's the thing: metalheads love to eat.

9. Sugar Area

How does a rum bar serve up a hot dog? In a glass of course!
The Hot Dog ( RMB88) cocktail at Sugar Area, crafted by co-founder Jacki Lo, is gracefully inspired by hot dogs without being too on the nose.

The cocktail is rum based, of course, with the key dog ingredients being yellow mustard and clarified tomato whey.
However, it is served with a full, bare dog as a crowning garnish.
Caveat: Must love mustard.
