Foreign Engineer Arrested for Flying Drone Near PLA Fleet

An American citizen of Korean descent has been arrested by Hong Kong police for flying a drone near a restricted zone as a Chinese naval fleet was leaving Victoria Harbour.

According to a report on October 3rd, the incident occurred around 10:00 AM when the PLA training ship Qi Jiguang and landing ship Yimengshan were departing Hong Kong. The 52-year-old man launched a drone in the no-fly zone near the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, an area under strict flight restrictions during such military movements.
At 10:24 AM, police received a report and quickly arrived at the scene. Officers located and subdued the suspect before beginning an investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the individual is an American national of South Korean origin working in Hong Kong as an engineer. He has been arrested for violating local drone operation laws, and further investigation is ongoing.
