A foreign traveler was caught at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport carrying over €435,900 in undeclared cash.

Guangzhou Customs recently intercepted a passenger attempting to bring an excessive amount of undeclared currency into China through Baiyun International Airport. Officers discovered €435,900 (approximately 3.6 million yuan) concealed in the traveler's luggage.

According to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Customs, officers conducting inspections on an inbound flight noticed anomalies in the X-ray images of a passenger who had chosen the "Nothing to Declare" channel. A further examination revealed bundles of euro banknotes in denominations of €200, €50, and €20. The passenger had not filed any declaration with Customs.

Customs authorities remind travelers that, under Chinese regulations, carrying large amounts of cash across the border is subject to restrictions. Any inbound passenger carrying more than 20,000 yuan in renminbi or foreign currency equivalent to over US$5,000 in cash must make a truthful declaration and proceed through the "Goods to Declare" channel.
