The world’s biggest vocational skills competition is coming to Shanghai from September 22 to 27.
More than 1,400 young competitors from over 70 countries and regions will compete in 64 skills at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. The competition itself runs from September 23 to 26.
Ahead of the opening, organizers have revealed several new features designed to make the event more realistic, interactive and interesting for visitors.
Hairdressing Gets a Catwalk
For the first time, the hairdressing competition will include a large LED stage and a live-model catwalk.
Competitors will create hairstyles on real models and present their work in front of an audience, adding a fashion-show element to the event.
The competition will also introduce an AI-powered “magic mirror” to assist with image and style design. It is the first time AI has been used in this way at the competition.
A Real Restaurant Inside the Venue
The Western culinary and restaurant service competitions will be held in connected spaces for the first time.
Together, they will recreate a working restaurant, allowing visitors to see how chefs and service staff coordinate in a real-world setting.
The goal is to make the competition environment closer to the workplaces where these skills are used every day.
Visitors Can Watch Digital Work Live
Computer-related competitions will feature public display screens for the first time.
Visitors will be able to see competitors’ previous work, follow projects while they are being created and view completed pieces after judging.
This will make it easier for people without a technical background to understand how software and design tools become finished animations or digital products.
A Cold Room for Fresh Flowers
The floristry competition has also added a new facility: a cold-storage room.
Because competitors will use fresh flowers throughout the four-day competition, the room will help organizers store and manage materials more effectively.
It is a small backstage change, but one that makes the competition closer to professional industry conditions.

How to Visit
Admission to the competition and related skills activities is free, but visitors must register online. Registration has been extended to September 17 at midnight.
International visitors should bring the original passport used during registration together with their electronic pass.
From AI-assisted styling to live cooking, digital displays and fresh-flower storage, WorldSkills Shanghai is designed to be more than a competition. It is also a public showcase of how vocational skills are changing.
