Client Background
A restaurant in Shanghai was ready to bring a new team member from Jordan on board. The employer needed him to obtain his official Work Permit and subsequent Residence Permit so he could begin his employment legally.
The application was moving forward when one document request created a serious obstacle.
The Challenge
During the review, the Huangpu Foreign Experts Bureau requested the original hard copy of the applicant’s Police Clearance Certificate. The client had received only an electronic version, and the electronic document was not accepted as the original for this application.
The question was how to respond when the document available from Jordan was digital and there was no separate paper original to submit.
Our Solution
We contacted the client immediately to clarify the discrepancy and explained that he needed to provide a certificate of no criminal record issued by the consulate.
We also communicated with the bureau about the client’s situation, including the fact that the certificate available to him from Jordan had been issued electronically without a separate paper original.
This gave the client a clear next step and brought the document issue directly to the reviewing authority’s attention.

The Result
The Work Permit application was approved. Our team then coordinated the next step, the Residence Permit application.
The residence permit receipt shown above records that the application was accepted for processing. It is an acceptance receipt, rather than confirmation that the Residence Permit has already been issued.
