Typhoon "Dolphin" is officially starting to make its presence felt in Shanghai. Multiple districts have already issued blue typhoon warnings this morning, and the city is bracing for days of stormy weather.
Here's what each district of Shanghai is expecting, and when the heaviest rain will hit.
When will it hit Shanghai?
According to the latest forecast from the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, Typhoon "Dolphin" will begin affecting Shanghai from today (August 7), with the main impact expected from August 8 through August 11. The city will see significant wind and rain during this period, and the persistent heatwave will finally take a break.
That means a weekend of wind, rain, and cooler temperatures — a break from the recent heatwave, but not exactly a relaxing one.
District-by-district wind forecast
Multiple districts in Shanghai have already issued blue typhoon warnings. Starting tonight, wind speeds will pick up significantly. Here's what each district is expecting:
Pudong New Area: Winds will gradually increase starting tonight (August 7). From tonight through August 10, most towns and streets will see gusts of 8–9 levels, with high-rise buildings and coastal areas experiencing gusts of 9–11 levels. Please take necessary precautions.
Jinshan District: Starting early morning on August 8, most towns and streets in the district will experience wind gusts of 8 levels or above. Residents are advised to take precautions against the typhoon's impact on high-altitude operations, transportation, and agricultural production.
Chongming District: Winds will increase starting tonight, with most towns in the district expected to see gusts of 8 levels or above. Please watch out for the typhoon's impact on high-altitude work, transportation, and farming.
Fengxian District: Starting early morning on August 8, most areas in the district will experience wind gusts of 8 levels or above. Please take precautions against the typhoon's impact on high-altitude operations, travel, and agriculture.

Will it land in Shanghai?
The current forecast suggests the typhoon will make landfall somewhere between Zhejiang and northern Fujian – possibly on the afternoon of August 9 or the morning of August 10. But there's still uncertainty.
If it tracks further north – closer to Shanghai – the impact will be more severe.
If it tracks further south – toward northern Fujian – the impact on Shanghai will be milder.
Either way, the city will still see significant wind and rain.
Where is it now?
As of 5 AM today, Typhoon Dolphin was located about 900 kilometers east of Wenzhou, Zhejiang province. It's currently a strong typhoon with maximum winds of 42 m/s (Category 14). It's moving west at 15–20 km/h and is expected to enter the East China Sea later today after passing through the Ryukyu Islands.
