Oh, 天哪 (tiān na) — it's July already!
With Chinese Summer Camp in full swing, we've barely had a chance to look back and reminisce.
But every month at That's Mandarin feels like a little lifetime.
June was no exception. From Dragon Boat Festival celebrations to tea ceremonies and friendly competitions, it was another month filled with unforgettable memories.
Let's look back at what happened in 六月 (liùyuè) ☀️
New Beginnings
First of all - a warm welcome to our newest Intensive Program students!
A new month means a new group of learners ready to dive into Chinese, meet classmates from around the world, and begin an exciting new chapter.
We hope your time at That's Mandarin is filled with progress, unforgettable experiences, and lots of happy memories. 加油 - jiāyóu!
Congratulations,
Graduates 🎓
While some are just getting started, others reached an important milestone.
Our Intensive Program graduates celebrated the completion of months of hard work, received their certificates, and said goodbye to classmates and teachers who had become friends along the way.
Congratulations to everyone—we're so proud of everything you've achieved. We wish you all the best on the next step of your Chinese journey!
Dragon Boat
Race in Hangzhou 🚣
Guess what our students in Hangzhou did for the Dragon Boat Festival?
They participated in a dragon boat race!
How 棒 (bàng) is that 😎
To make it even cooler, they split into two teams — Team Bù Dǒng (不懂) and Team De Dǒng (得懂) — and paddled their way through an afternoon of teamwork, cheering, and friendly competition at Xixi Wetland.

Zongzi Time
Dragon Boat Festival wouldn't be complete without 粽子 (zòngzi).
During a class break in Shanghai, students gathered to taste this traditional holiday treat and learn about the customs behind the festival.
Making
Scented Sachets
In Beijing, students celebrated Dragon Boat Festival by making their own 香包 (xiāngbāo) — traditional scented sachets.
🌾
Filled with fragrant herbs and carrying wishes for good health and good fortune, these colorful handmade decorations have been part of the festival for centuries.
A small craft with a long tradition — and a wonderful souvenir to take home.
Chinese Knots
Workshop
Meanwhile in Shanghai, our students learned how to make traditional Chinese knots.
With a little patience (and a lot of careful tying!), simple cords gradually transformed into beautiful decorative ornaments symbolizing good luck and happiness.
Back to
Childhood
June's Bilingual Corner in Chengdu took everyone on a trip down memory lane.
The theme? Childhood!
Students shared funny stories, favorite games, and childhood memories from growing up in different countries—all while practicing both Chinese and English.
Tea Time in Suzhou
To round off the month, students in Suzhou slowed the pace with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
🍵 茶艺 cháyì • tea ceremony
Learning about different teas, brewing techniques, and tea etiquette offered a peaceful moment to experience an important part of Chinese culture.
🌱
Sometimes the best conversations begin over a cup of tea 🌱
