May flew by in a blink of an eye!
五月 (wǔyuè) at That's Mandarin was a month of fresh starts, proud milestones, and plenty of opportunities to practice Chinese beyond the classroom.
From welcoming new students to celebrating graduates, there was no shortage of memorable moments across our campuses.
Welcome to the
Intensive Program 👋
First of all - a warm welcome to our newest Intensive Program students!
Every new month brings a new group of learners ready to dive into Chinese, meet classmates from around the world, and begin an exciting language journey together.
Congratulations,
Graduates 🎓
While some groups begin, other groups celebrate an important milestone.
Our Intensive Program graduates wrapped up months of hard work, completed their courses, and received their certificates with plenty of smiles (and a few bittersweet goodbyes).
Congratulations to everyone—we are so proud of how far you've come. Can't wait to see where your Chinese journey takes you next!
Ordering Coffee
in Chinese ☕️
There's no better classroom than the real world.
Last month, our Beijing and Shanghai students headed to a local coffee shop - to put their Chinese into practice by ordering drinks, chatting with the staff, and using vocabulary they'd learned in class.
One coffee, a little courage, and plenty of Chinese — mission accomplished!
Bilingual Corner
in Chengdu 💬
Learning doesn't stop when class ends.
Students at our Chengdu campus joined our Bilingual Corner, where learners of all levels came together to chat, exchange languages, and make new friends in a relaxed atmosphere.

A Taste of Chinese
Tea Culture
In Chengdu, our students also experienced the art of the traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
From learning about different teas to discovering proper brewing techniques and etiquette, it was a peaceful way to explore another side of Chinese culture.
Singing Songs
in Chinese 🎤
They say the best rest is a change of activity. So what better way to take a break between classes than by singing together?
From catchy melodies to new vocabulary,
Mahjong Nights
Of course, no month would be complete without a few rounds of mahjong!
Students in both Shanghai and Beijing gathered around the mahjong table for an evening full of 吃 (chī), 碰 (pèng), laughter, and just a little friendly competition.
Plant Printing
Workshop 🌿
Nature became our paintbrush at May's plant printing workshop in Shanghai.
Using fresh leaves and flowers, students created beautiful prints while exploring a traditional craft inspired by nature.
植物拓染 (zhíwù tàrǎn) • plant printing 🍂
Each artwork turned out completely unique 🍁☘️
Ping Pong
Challenge 🏓
Think you have steady hands?
Students in Shanghai tested their table tennis skills in a fun bouncing challenge to see who could keep the ball going the longest.
Simple to learn, surprisingly difficult to master… and much more competitive than anyone expected!
What's Next?
At That's Mandarin, we believe language learning goes far beyond the classroom. From real-world experiences to cultural immersion, our Intensive Course helps students connect with Chinese on a deeper, more personal level.
