Two Pedestrians Killed After Construction Site Wall Collapse in Shanghai's Jing'an District

Shanghai, December 23, 2025 — A tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning in Shanghai's Jing'an District, resulting in the deaths of two pedestrians.

At around 8:00 a.m., a cement mixer truck was reversing into a construction site at the intersection of Anyuan Road and Taizhou Road when it accidentally hit and collapsed the site's perimeter wall. The falling wall struck two pedestrians walking on the sidewalk, fatally injuring them.


Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crash before seeing the wall give way. "The truck was backing into the site when suddenly the wall fell over. Two people were walking right by it," one witness told local media.


Reporters at the scene observed that the entrance to the construction site on Anyuan Road had been cordoned off with striped tarpaulins. According to preliminary information, both victims showed no signs of life upon arrival at the hospital.


Authorities immediately dispatched emergency response teams to the scene.


In an official statement released by the Caojiadu Subdistrict Office at 6:33 p.m. yesterday, officials confirmed that:


"At 7:52 a.m. on December 23, a cement mixer truck collided with a wall while exiting the construction site at Lane 899, Anyuan Road, causing the wall to collapse and injure two pedestrians. Despite emergency rescue efforts, both victims were pronounced dead. The incident is currently under further investigation."
