Henley & Partners has released the latest quarterly update of its 2025 Global Passport Index.
Top 10 Most Powerful Passports in 2025
1. Singapore – 193 Destinations
Singapore retains its long-standing lead, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 destinations. The city-state continues to provide unparalleled travel convenience across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.
2. South Korea – 190 Destinations
South Korea holds second place with access to 190 destinations. Its passport remains highly attractive for students, business travelers, and tourists due to broad entry privileges across Europe, the UK, and the Americas.
3. Japan – 189 Destinations
Formerly a consistent chart-topper, Japan now ranks third with access to 189 destinations, still maintaining one of the world's most respected travel documents.
4. European Power Group – 187 Destinations
Twelve European nations share the fourth position: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland. Their access to 187 destinations underscores the diplomatic influence of the EU and the Schengen Area.
5. Austria, Greece, Norway, Portugal, Sweden – 186 Destinations
This group ranks fifth, benefiting from EU or EEA membership and long-standing international partnerships that secure visa-free access to 186 destinations.
6. Hungary, Malta, New Zealand, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia – 185 Destinations
These countries tie for sixth place with access to 185 destinations. With the exception of New Zealand, EU membership significantly boosts travel mobility.
7. Australia, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, UAE, United Kingdom – 184 Destinations
The seventh tier offers access to 184 destinations. The United Arab Emirates is a standout, rising rapidly in recent years due to its assertive diplomatic outreach and expanding global trade ties.
8. Canada and Latvia – 183 Destinations
Canada and Latvia share eighth place. Canada continues to score highly, while Latvia benefits from EU and Schengen integration.
9. Liechtenstein and Lithuania – 182 Destinations
Despite its small size, Liechtenstein maintains one of the world's strongest passports. Joined by Lithuania, both countries grant access to 182 destinations through comprehensive Schengen and EU arrangements.
10. Iceland and Malaysia – 181 Destinations
Completing the top ten, Iceland and Malaysia provide visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry to 181 destinations. Iceland enjoys robust Nordic diplomatic networks, while Malaysia remains one of Asia's most mobile passports thanks to extensive regional cooperation.
China's Passport Strength Continues to Rise
China's passport has climbed from 94th place in 2015 to 64th in 2025, gaining dozens of additional visa-free destinations over the past decade. This progress is largely attributed to China's sustained efforts to promote visa facilitation, expand bilateral agreements, and strengthen diplomatic ties worldwide.
