New AI Search Feature in WeChat

The AI search feature is accessible from the search bar located at the top of WeChat's main page. When clicked, users will notice an option for "AI Search." As of now, this feature is part of a gray test, meaning that only select users can access it.

Upon clicking the "AI Search" option, users can choose the "DeepThink" option, which activates the DeepSeek R1 model. The model allows users to search with AI-driven thought processes, providing a unique experience where the reasoning behind the search results is displayed. However, if this option is not visible, it means the feature has not yet been made available to your account, and users are advised to wait for its wider rollout.

Key Features and Information

According to WeChat's official feature page, the DeepSeek model is part of an open-source initiative. The DeepSeek series of open-source models are provided by DeepSeek, a company dedicated to AI research, and their contributions to the open-source community are acknowledged.

The current capabilities of this AI-powered search are as follows:

  • Reasoning Process: Results come with a detailed explanation of the thought process behind the AI's conclusion.

  • Sharing: Search results can be directly forwarded to friends or group chats.

  • Limitations: Continuous conversations and historical records are not supported at this time.

Impact on WeChat Search and Future Applications

Analysts believe that DeepSeek's advantage in natural language processing could significantly enhance WeChat's search accuracy. By combining AI with official accounts' content, personalized answers can be provided to users, improving the overall search experience. Additionally, DeepSeek's open-source nature aligns well with WeChat's ecosystem, providing opportunities for further integration in future applications, such as intelligent customer service.
