When residing in China, there are times when overseas travels are needed, and often for some people's insurance are not covered overseas. When people need to travel overseas, there are underlying risks during travel such as flight cancellation, flight delay, baggage delay, thefts/loss of properties and passports, acute illnesses or injuries and so on. For those with a worldwide health insurance coverage, they would still look for a travel insurance policy to cover the above risks.
While there are abundant international companies operating in China that offers travel insurance, it might be difficult to obtain product information, since most of them are in Chinese. Hence it is most ideal to approach an insurance broker to help you with travel insurance information for your overseas travels.
How to obtain a suitable travel insurance plan for your travels? Few things you need to know.
First of all, make sure the travel insurance plan covers the destinations of your intended travels. There are different geographical coverage plans available on the market, while there are worldwide travel plans that covers anywhere in the world. Bear in mind that if you take yearly coverage, you will usually be covered for unlimited number of travels within the year, and subject to a maximum days per trip. When you are looking to obtain a travel insurance plan, make sure they provide global assistance service, with a 24 hour service hotline you could reach at anytime, with English services, and are good assistance companies.
You could either obtain single trip travel policies, or you could also obtain yearly coverage travel policies. Note that you need to obtain the travel insurance before you leave China, usually at least 24 hours before departure, otherwise it will not be valid; if you take yearly coverage, it will cover whenever you leave China for unlimited times, without having to obtain a travel insurance plan every time you need to travel. If you travel often, a yearly coverage travel insurance plan could be more cost-effective.
