Student Wins Lawsuit Against Shanghai Disneyland and gets RMB 50

Not long ago, a student from the East China University of Political Science and Law filed a lawsuit against Shanghai Disneyland over a snack incident that she wouldnt let go so easily without a fight.

Both parties, including Shanghai International Theme Park Co. Ltd. representing Disneyland as the defendant, ended up agreeing on a settlement worth RMB 50 payable in court.

The mediation agreement has been signed by both parties.

Heres how it all unfolded.

Earlier this year, student Xiao Wang was stopped from entering the park by Disneyland staff because she was carrying food from outside the park, and was told that visitors were not allowed to bring food in according to Shanghai Disneyland policies. After unsuccessful negotiating tactics, Xiao Wang had to dispose of her snacks.

Feeling angry and curious, she dug a little deeper and found that Disney parks in the US and France did not prohibit visitors from bringing food into their parks, which infuriated her as she was convinced that the only reason Shanghai would be implementing such policies was to encourage more consumerism for their food halls inside.

She believed that such policies infringed the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, and decided to sue Shanghai Disneyland for it.

When asked why she was pursuing this, Wang said: As law students, it is our duty to fight for our rights and for what we believe in This case isnt about the money; its about generating greater public awareness of what their own rights are, and elevate their curiosity to take required actions whenever applicable. And, most importantly, to say no to an unjust system!

Since the settlement, Shanghai Disneyland has updated its entry regulations, which weve covered in another article: Shanghai Disneyland Now Allows Food But Not...

After the news of her compensation broke out, it quickly topped the most-searched list on Weibo, with many netizens showing widespread support for her brave and honorable actions.

She is setting an inspiring example and a precedent to show that even one person can influence a corporate giant.
