Recent news of a female soldier with the prestigious rank of Chinese Honor Gard went viral on the official Douyin account of Chinas state-owned newspaper, Peoples Daily, with a video showing the woman walking elegantly in front of her comrades as if she were on a runway.
The video quickly gained a lot of traction, attracting millions of likes and comments from curious netizens, some of whom pointed out how beautiful female soldiers are in China.
Some went as far as claiming she was the most beautiful soldier in the whole army!
However, some users were particularly drawn to the reaction from fellow male officers, who clearly could not hold their excitement over the soldiers catwalk performance.
As it turns out, this now-viral female soldier, named Men Jiahui, isnt unfamiliar with the spotlight.
Born in 1992 in Dalian, a modern port city on the southern tip of Chinas Liaoning Province, she was once an award-winning model.
She graduated from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in July 2014, where she majored in modelling and won the top ten national modeling contest organized by CCTV.
She then joined the worlds largest standing army (China) as an honor guard after graduation due to her genuine reverence for the military rank, not long after she found out about the increasing number of female applicants trying their hand at joining the Peoples Liberation Army through local branches.
It also helps that she had dreamt of becoming a soldier since she was a child.
Photos from her daily life.
Its easy to judge someone based on their looks or their title, but the amount of wit and hard work put behind it is easily overlooked.
Due to the high level of significance that being an honor guard represents to a nation, particularly when it comes to entering the parade field, female soldiers are required to go through eight months of intensive training. This includes goose-stepping and holding ones position with a rifle, which are important details to pay attention to.
This training (and career) can be tiring.
But these inspiring women are fierce.
