Shanghai's 2026 CIIE (November 5-10) lets foreign exhibitors apply for port visas online via Yangtze River Delta firms. A valid CIIE invitation is required.

Foreign Exhibitors at Shanghai’s CIIE Can Apply for Port Visas More Easily This Year
Shanghai has introduced new entry and visa services for foreign exhibitors and business visitors attending the 2026 China International Import Expo.

The ninth CIIE will take place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai fromNovember 5 to 10.
Port Visas Linked to the CIIE
Foreign professionals who have received an official CIIE invitation can apply for a port visa on site through a new service connection between Shanghai’s Oriental Hub International Business Cooperation Zone and the CIIE.
The service is designed for foreign talent and overseas business visitors who need to enter China specifically for the expo. It does not mean that every foreign visitor can automatically obtain a visa at the airport. Applicants must still meet the relevant conditions and provide a valid CIIE invitation.
Online Applications for Invited Visitors
For foreign exhibitors and business visitors invited by companies or institutions inShanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui, Shanghai has introduced a full online application process for port visas.
This gives companies in the Yangtze River Delta a regional channel for inviting overseas partners, buyers and exhibitors to the CIIE, while reducing repeated paperwork before arrival.
Identity Verification at the Exhibition Area
Shanghai will also provide on-site identity verification for overseas exhibitors and business visitors who need to complete identity checks. Eligible visitors can have their identity verified and receive printed documents through the city’s overseas talent service platform in Hongqiao.
Other Entry and Residence Services
The measures also include easier procedures for foreign exhibitors invited by companies outside Shanghai, electronic port-visa services for Shanghai-based invitations, group tourist visa services, faster processing for eligible professional visitors and assistance with certain stay and residence documents.
Shanghai will continue to provide support for eligible foreign exhibitors whose visa-free stay is ending, as well as on-site assistance through the exhibition’s foreigner service station. The CIIE registration system will also continue to accept the Foreigner’s Permanent Residence Card of the People’s Republic of China.
Transport Arrangements Will Also Change
Shanghai is adjusting traffic and transport arrangements around the National Exhibition and Convention Center. The city plans to provide temporary pick-up and drop-off areas for taxis and ride-hailing cars, improve connections with Metro Line 2 and reduce the area and hours covered by some vehicle restrictions.
Amap and Baidu Maps will also provide recommended drop-off points for visitors arriving by car.
These measures are mainly intended for foreign exhibitors, invited business visitors and professional attendees. Anyone planning to attend the CIIE should check whether their invitation, nationality and entry status meet the relevant requirements before making travel arrangements.
