A 60-year-old woman in Henan province gave birth to a baby girl by caesarean section, two years after welcoming a son following the loss of her older child.

According to Chinese media reports, the woman, surnamed Zhang, decided to become a mother again later in life after experiencing the heartbreaking loss of her only child in 2022.
Her newborn daughter, weighing 2.8 kilograms, was delivered by caesarean section on September 17 at Zhumadian Central Hospital in Henan province.
Zhang expressed her happiness at having both a son and a daughter, saying her family now feels complete. She is especially pleased that her children will grow up together and have each other for companionship.
Her two-year-old son, affectionately known as Guoguo, was delighted to meet his little sister and even welcomed her by singing a children's song at the hospital.
Despite criticism surrounding motherhood at an advanced age, Zhang remains optimistic about her future. She says she feels much younger than her actual age and believes she has many healthy years ahead.
Her confidence comes partly from her family's history of longevity. Her father lived to 100, while her 94-year-old mother remains active and independent.
Doctors described Zhang's pregnancy as highly unusual, noting that childbirth at 60 is extremely rare in China. Medical staff also observed that she appeared calmer and more confident throughout her second pregnancy.
Zhang said she continued cooking and handling household responsibilities while pregnant. Although her husband initially worried about the risks associated with her age, she remained determined.
It has not been confirmed whether she received fertility treatment to conceive.
Her story has sparked conversations across Chinese social media about late motherhood, family, grief and the emotional impact of losing an only child.
A similar case was reported earlier this year in Jilin province, where a 62-year-old woman gave birth to a daughter after losing her only son.
These stories highlight the deeply personal decisions some parents make while rebuilding their families after unimaginable loss.
