Client Background
A Korean national working at a medical institution in Shanghai held a work‑type residence permit and had been legally employed in the city for years. He was a respected professional in his field – and he had an upcoming overseas academic conference he couldn't miss.
Then his work visa came up for renewal.

What We Found
The timing couldn't have been worse.
Two critical documents needed to be renewed simultaneously: his medical practice certificate and his employer's business license. Both were prerequisites for the work permit extension – and neither had been updated yet. The clock was ticking.
To make matters more complicated, the client had already booked travel for an overseas academic conference. He needed to leave China soon – but he also needed to secure his visa status before departure, or risk being stuck abroad without a way back in.
It was a classic catch‑22: he couldn't complete the visa renewal without the updated documents, but he couldn't wait for them without disrupting his travel plans.
What We Did
We didn't wait for the documents to arrive before starting work.
First, we mapped out the entire renewal process and prepared every document we could in advance – application forms, employment verification, and supporting materials – so that the moment the new practice certificate was issued, we'd be ready to move.
The day the client received his updated medical certificate, we immediately filed the work permit extension application. No wasted days.
For the conference travel, we prepared a backup plan: a business visa invitation letter and all supporting documents, so that when the client returned from overseas, he could seamlessly apply for a business visa to re‑enter China and then complete the residence permit transfer – without any gap in his legal status.
The Result
The work visa extension was successfully approved.
The client attended his overseas conference without interruption, returned to China smoothly on the business visa we had arranged, and completed the residence permit transfer without any legal gaps.
