A 32-year-old Chinese woman sentenced to six years in prison and a 500,000 yuan fine in Nanning was arrested near Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport after fleeing to Thailand.

A Chinese woman who allegedly escaped the country after being sentenced to six years in prison has been arrested by Thai authorities near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The 32-year-old woman, identified by Thai police as Wang, was wanted in China in connection with a prostitution-related case. Chinese authorities had reportedly been searching for her after she avoided beginning her prison sentence and later disappeared from the country.
According to Thai authorities, the case originated in Nanning, Guangxi, where Wang was investigated by local police. During the legal proceedings, she was temporarily released because she was pregnant.
On December 2, 2025, a court in the Xixiangtang District of Nanning reportedly sentenced her to six years in prison and imposed a 500,000 yuan fine.
However, Wang did not begin serving the sentence.
Chinese investigators later discovered that she had travelled by train toward Pingxiang, a city close to the border between China and Vietnam, on December 18, 2025. Authorities subsequently lost track of her and believed she had crossed the border illegally before eventually travelling through Southeast Asia.
Traced to Thailand
Thai law-enforcement officials later received information suggesting that Wang had entered Thailand and was staying in Bangkok, particularly around the Huai Khwang area, which has a sizeable Chinese community.
Officers began monitoring her movements while coordinating with immigration authorities.
Investigators eventually learned that Wang planned to leave Thailand temporarily and return, a practice commonly known as a visa run.
On September 11, 2026, she travelled from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Thai authorities continued monitoring her movements and prepared for her return.
Several days later, Wang arrived back at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Rather than arresting her immediately inside the airport, officers reportedly followed her after she left the terminal.
Police said Wang later stopped at a roadside location in Samut Prakan, apparently waiting for someone to pick her up.
Officers then moved in and arrested her.
Facing Return to China
Thai authorities are now handling the immigration and legal procedures related to the case.
Wang is expected to be returned to China, where she could be required to serve the six-year prison sentence previously imposed by the Chinese court.
The arrest highlights continued cooperation between Chinese and Thai law-enforcement agencies in cases involving fugitives believed to have escaped China and travelled elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
Authorities have not publicly released extensive details about Wang’s activities while she was outside China or how long she had been staying in Thailand before her arrest.
