The incident reportedly happened on 31 August 2026 at Paya Lebar Quarter Mall in Singapore. A woman at the mall noticed the delivery rider because Meituan is mainly known as a Chinese food delivery platform and does not normally operate food deliveries in Singapore.
The rider reportedly explained that he had travelled from China to Singapore specifically to collect a small order of curry puffs for a customer who had previously tried them and wanted to eat them again.
The order itself was worth only around S$13.50 and included several curry puffs with fillings such as potato curry and sardine.
What attracted the most attention was the cost of the trip. According to the rider, the customer paid roughly 2,400 yuan for the flight, which is around RM1,446. That means the travel cost was many times higher than the price of the food.
The rider did not reveal how much he was personally being paid for making the journey.
There was also some confusion when he tried to pay for the curry puffs using Chinese payment methods such as Alipay or WeChat Pay, which the stall did not accept.
The curry puff shop had previously participated in an event in Hainan, China, so it is possible the customer discovered the brand there, although this has not been confirmed.
After videos of the unusual delivery started circulating online, many people wondered whether Meituan had launched an international food delivery service.
However, Meituan reportedly clarified that it does not officially provide cross-border food delivery between China and Singapore.
This means the trip appears to have been a special private arrangement rather than a normal order placed through Meituan's official delivery system.
The identity of the customer, the rider's exact payment, and what happened after the curry puffs were collected have not been publicly confirmed.
