Enable WeChat's Minor Mode to set daily spending caps, per-transaction limits, and daily Shorts viewing time. It also hides financial tools and lets guardians approve restricted content remotely. Ideal for parents or anyone wanting a cleaner, distraction-free WeChat experience.

WeChat's New Mode – Cleaner, Simpler, and Easier to Manage.
You've probably heard some friends say, "OMG, my WeChat freaked me out" or "Why can't I send money?" recently.
Relax. You might have accidentally turned on "Minor Mode".
While it's designed for children, some adults who want a more disciplined WeChat experience might want to give it a try too. The reason? It makes the app feel cleaner, simpler, and easier to manage.
Here's what it does and how to use it.
What Is WeChat's Minor Mode?
You can find it under "Me" → "Settings" in your WeChat app.
Once enabled, Minor Mode gives you — or your child — a more controlled environment with three standout features:
1. Spending Limits – No More Accidental Purchases
WeChat Pay is convenient — maybe too convenient.
Under Minor Mode, you can set a daily spending limit and a per-transaction limit. Once you hit that cap, any attempt to pay will simply show a gray screen — transaction declined.
Also, certain financial features like Q-Coin recharge, LiCaiTong, and credit card services are automatically hidden. No accidental taps, no surprise charges.
2. Video Time Limits – No More Mindless Scrolling
Let's be honest — watching Shorts can eat up your entire evening.
With Minor Mode, you can set:
Daily viewing time limits for Shorts
Restricted viewing hours (e.g., no Shorts after 10 PM)
The content you do see is also filtered to age-appropriate material — meaning less noise, less clickbait, and more relevant content.

3. Parental Approval – Remote Permission for Shared Content
Some content and features are blocked by default under Minor Mode — including certain articles, mini-programs, and external links.
But when something genuinely matters, the child (or the device user) can send a temporary access request to a pre-set guardian, who can approve it remotely.
Once approved, access is granted for the rest of that day — and automatically expires at midnight.
Many users in China are now turning on Minor Mode just to keep their own WeChat clean.
It hides financial features you might never use
It limits pointless short-video scrolling
It makes WeChat feel simpler — less overwhelming
