The Dragon Boat Festival holiday is also expected to be affected by the rain belt. On June 19, Shanghai is forecast to see heavy rain in some areas, with possible localized rainstorms, thunder, and short periods of intense rainfall.
The most noticeable rainfall is expected from late June 18 to daytime June 19. Rainfall may vary across the city, with central Shanghai mainly seeing heavy rain, while western and northern districts may face stronger downpours.
Temperatures during the holiday are expected to remain relatively stable, with highs around 27–30°C, but the weather may feel more uncomfortable due to the high humidity.
During the plum rain season, residents may notice that clothes take longer to dry, rooms feel damp, food spoils more easily, and mosquitoes become more active.
Common measures include using air conditioners, dehumidifiers, dryers, or moisture absorbers, keeping food properly stored, cleaning areas with standing water, carrying rain gear when going out, and following updated weather forecasts and alerts.
Shanghai’s plum rain season usually lasts about three weeks, though the actual length can vary from year to year.
