The situation began unfolding late last month when the victim, a woman from Myanmar, was introduced to Lam’s residence in Taipa through a friend for a job interview. Lam is currently separated from his wife and has two children. By June 2, the two had completed the official foreign labor quota paperwork, and the woman officially started her duties at his home that very day.

However, things took a dark turn almost immediately. While she was working, Lam suddenly demanded a kiss from her. When she hesitated, he threatened her by using the processing of her "Blue Card"—the essential non-resident worker identification card—as leverage.

Caught under immense financial pressure and fearing the loss of her legal status, the helper felt she had no choice but to submit, and she was subsequently raped. Traumatized and vulnerable, she did not report the incident to the police right away.

The very next day, Lam attempted to use the exact same coercive tactics to force her into sexual acts again. This time, the victim found the strength to clearly refuse and fought back with all her might. Lam was unable to have his way, but in a fit of rage, he kicked the helpless woman out of his apartment.

After spending a few days agonizing over what to do, the victim courageously decided to seek justice and went to the police station to file a report on the afternoon of June 6. The authorities acted swiftly upon receiving the report. On the morning of June 7, officers moved in and arrested Lam directly at the Taipa apartment where the crimes took place.

Following an initial investigation, the police stated that there are strong indications Lam committed the crimes of rape and sexual coercion. The case has now been officially transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for further investigation and prosecution.
