A joint official investigation team has issued a formal report over a widely circulated campus bullying incident involving underage students in Lujiang County, Hefei city, East China’s Anhui Province. The bullying case went viral online after a video of a teenage girl being repeatedly slapped by her peers sparked widespread public outrage and discussion across Chinese social platforms.
All three students involved in the incident are underage girls aged between 12 and 13. The joint investigation team consists of local education, public security and health authorities, which conducted a comprehensive probe into the bullying behavior and released the official investigation results on Friday.
The incident took place off-campus on June 18. Two local school students, surnamed Dai and Liu, physically bullied a 12-year-old schoolgirl surnamed Zhang. A passer-by captured the whole process on video and posted the footage online, quickly triggering heated public debate.
The viral video shows the two perpetrators taking turns slapping the victim’s face in a cruel, premeditated manner. One girl slapped the victim three times on her right cheek, before the other stepped forward and delivered two slaps to her left cheek. Several onlookers were present at the scene but failed to stop the bullying. Throughout the entire ordeal, the young victim remained silent and did not fight back.
According to the official investigation briefing, local public security departments have summoned the two juvenile offenders Dai and Liu for questioning and investigation. Relevant departments have urged the students’ school and guardians to strictly fulfill supervisory duties and thoroughly resolve hidden interpersonal conflicts among students to prevent similar incidents.
Both perpetrators and their parents have fully admitted their wrongdoing and offered formal apologies to the bullied girl Zhang.
To help the victim recover from the physical and psychological harm caused by the bullying, authorities have arranged special staff to provide one-on-one psychological counseling and targeted care assistance for the young girl. Meanwhile, the investigation team has issued a public appeal, urging netizens to respect the privacy of minors and stop reposting or spreading relevant incident videos and images to avoid secondary harm to the victim.
The bullying incident has climbed into the trending social issue rankings on Sina Weibo, amassing more than 440,000 views and drawing massive public attention. Numerous netizens condemned the campus bullying behavior, calling for stricter regulation and disciplinary intervention on juvenile campus violence. Many also appealed for improved psychological intervention mechanisms and long-term mental health support for bullying victims at schools.
Netizens described the case as typical and representative of campus bullying, highlighting the urgency of strengthening moral education, school management and family supervision to protect the physical and mental safety of minors.
