Thai authorities have launched a major investigation after uncovering a large collection of weapons, explosives, and military-style equipment at a property in Chon Buri province near Pattaya.
The investigation reportedly began after police stopped a vehicle carrying two Chinese nationals and discovered an illegal handgun. The case later led officers to the residence of a 31-year-old Chinese man identified as Sun Mingchen, where authorities uncovered what they described as a significant weapons stockpile.
During the raid, police seized assault rifles, ammunition, grenades, anti-personnel mines, explosives, fuel containers, and other dangerous materials. Authorities also reportedly discovered online searches and videos related to weapons and explosives on the suspect’s devices, increasing concerns about possible criminal or security-related activities.
According to Thai investigators, the suspect claimed he suffered from depression and stated that the weapons were intended for personal reasons rather than a planned attack. However, police said they are continuing a full investigation to determine the origin of the weapons and whether additional individuals or networks may be connected to the case.
Officials confirmed that the suspect had reportedly been living in Thailand on a long-term visa for approximately two years. He now faces charges related to the illegal possession of firearms and explosives, which could result in severe penalties under Thai law.
The discovery has attracted widespread attention across Thailand due to the large quantity of military-grade equipment found inside a residential property. Authorities stated that the investigation remains ongoing as security agencies continue examining the seized materials and possible connections to wider illegal activities.
