According to the official report from the transit police (@轨交幺幺零), the incident took place on Wednesday, March 11, around 11:00 PM.

A 48-year-old man surnamed Chen, who was visiting Shanghai from another province, reportedly set fire to his own clothing while riding a Line 2 train.

The fire was discovered by the train driver, who acted quickly to extinguish the flames once the train reached East Nanjing Road Station. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among passengers or staff, and the fire did not spread to the carriage itself.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers noted that Chen was speaking incoherently and displaying "abnormal behavior." A background check revealed that he has a recorded history of seeking treatment for mental health issues.

Chen has since been placed under criminal detention as the police continue their investigation into the case.
