Under current requirements:

A foreign newborn must complete the following two items within two months after birth:

1️⃣ Obtain a passport

2️⃣ Complete China visa application procedures


If the deadline is missed, the system may generate:

A 303 record (overstay/non-processing record due to failure to apply on time)

which may affect future visa applications.


So what if timing is tight?

In many countries, passport issuance can take a long time. In that case, families may consider:

1️⃣ Applying for an Emergency Passport first

2️⃣ Using the Emergency Passport to complete the China visa application

3️⃣ After the long-term passport is issued, transferring the visa to the new passport

5. Canada and the United Kingdom Are Officially Added to China's Visa-Free List for Up to 30 Days


To further facilitate cross-border travel, the Chinese government announced that from February 17, 2026 to December 31, 2026, China will implement a trial visa-free policy for Canada and the United Kingdom.


During this period:

Canadian and UK citizens holding an ordinary passport may enter China visa-free if the purpose of travel is:


  • Business activities

  • Tourism

  • Visiting relatives and friends

  • Exchanges and visits

  • Transit


And the length of stay does not exceed 30 days, they may enter China without a visa.


This means that for many business travelers:

What previously required advance visa processing can now be handled through direct entry for short-term business activities, significantly improving travel convenience.


However, it is important to note:

If the purpose of travel falls under any of the following, a visa is still required in advance:


  • Employment in China

  • Long-term study

  • Long-term business assignment or posting

  • Long-term residence


In other words, visa-free entry applies to short-term visits, but it does not apply to employment or long-duration stays.
