WeChat has officially launched a new feature that works remarkably like Apple's AirDrop, allowing for seamless, high-speed, and lossless file sharing without the need to "Add Friend" or join a temporary group.
The "AirDrop" Experience, Now on WeChat
Announced by WeChat staff on February 24 and confirmed by the official @微信派 account on February 27, the new "Receive Photos & Files Nearby" function is a game-changer for privacy and convenience.
Just like AirDrop, this feature uses zero data and requires devices to be in close proximity. The best part? It supports original, high-definition transfers, meaning your 4K videos and crisp photos won't be compressed into blurry messes.
How to Use It
You don't need to dig through your settings. It's hidden right in your scanner:
Tap the "+" at the top right of your WeChat home screen and select "Scan".
Tap "My QR Code" at the bottom left.
Select "Receive Photos & Files Nearby", or "Receive Red Packet Nearby".
Let the other person scan your code, and they can start "AirDropping" files to you instantly.
