On December 23, 2025, the People's Court of Shangyu District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, concluded a case involving the sale and distribution of pornographic materials for profit. The defendant, Chen, was found guilty of this offense and sentenced accordingly.

Chen, originally from Maoming, Guangdong Province, began selling explicit content through Baidu Cloud in July 2025. He advertised the materials online and sold them to individuals, including a man surnamed Sun from Shangyu, after agreeing on the type and price of the videos.

After receiving 123 yuan from Sun, Chen sent him 163 pornographic videos via a chat platform. Forensic analysis confirmed the content was obscene. On August 21, 2025, police from Shangyu District apprehended Chen at his residence in Maoming.

The case was later prosecuted by the Shangyu District People's Procuratorate under the charge of selling and distributing obscene materials for profit. The court found that although Chen pleaded guilty and could be considered for leniency, the nature of the crime and his conduct did not justify a suspended sentence.

In its ruling, the court sentenced Chen to seven months in prison, imposed a 2,000 yuan fine, and ordered the confiscation of his 123 yuan in illegal earnings.

The court emphasized: cyberspace is not beyond the reach of law. Regardless of the scale or financial gain, any profit-driven production, reproduction, sale, or distribution of obscene content constitutes a criminal offense and will be punished accordingly.
