A female drug enforcement police officer from Central China's Henan Province snatched a knife unarmed while on leave and was slashed, yet she followed up with a flying kick that precisely knocked the assailant's weapon away, the Department of Justice of Henan Province reported on its official website.
Wang Miaoli works at the second compulsory isolation drug rehabilitation center in Luohe, Henan Province. During the New Year holiday, she was out with her child when she saw two men engaged in a heated dispute.
One of the men suddenly pulled out a sharp blade from his tricycle. Wang pushed her child to safety and rushed forward in an attempt to stop the violence.
The man refused to back down but instead slashed at Wang with the knife, the report said.
Disregarding her own safety, Wang attempted to seize the knife bare‑handed, sustaining cuts on her left cheek, ear, lip, and other areas. She then seized an opportunity and knocked the weapon from the man's hand with a kick, according to the report.
After losing the blade, the suspect tried to flee on his tricycle. Wang, fighting through excruciating pain, clung tightly to the vehicle. With the help of bystanders, the suspect was restrained until police arrived.
Wang was then taken to the hospital and received more than 30 stitches to her face. The deepest wound was about one centimeter deep, and the longest nearly 5 centimeters. She is now in stable condition.
Wang said she doesn't have any superpowers, "what I did then was just an instinctive reaction from a police officer," Xinhua News Agency reported.
Wang's actions won praise from local residents. Officials from the provincial judicial administrative system later visited her in hospital and called on officers across the system to learn from her, the report said.
