Rumours claiming that disgraced Chinese-Canadian star Kris Wu has been killed in prison are sweeping across Chinese social media, sparking both widespread discussion and scepticism.
The former EXO member, who is serving a 13-year sentence for sex crimes in a Beijing prison, has been the subject of multiple unverified claims about his death. The latest wave of speculation includes graphic but unsubstantiated accounts from anonymous sources alleging he was killed by gang members or died from long-term hunger strike.
This is not the first time such rumours have emerged—similar claims circulated in April without any official confirmation. Under Chinese law, spreading false information online can lead to detention for 5-10 days and fines of up to 500 yuan (US$70).
While the Chaoyang District Public Security Bureau has yet to respond to the latest rumours, many online observers have expressed frustration over the repeated false reports.
"Prisons are highly regulated. How could something like this happen so easily?" one netizen commented. "We should focus more on the legal process and less on these outrageous rumours."
Wu's fall from grace began in 2021 when he was arrested on charges of sex crimes involving minors. His sentence included deportation after serving his prison term, marking a dramatic end to what was once a flourishing entertainment career.
