Chinese social media platform WeChat announced on Sunday that it will add explicit and implicit labels to the AI-generated synthetic content, aiming to enhance content identification and ensure the transparency and credibility of information access for users, and foster a sincere, healthy, and safe platform environment.
According to the measures set to take effect on Monday, social media platforms must add both explicit and implicit labels to AI-generated synthetic content, the platform's content-security account Shanhu said in a statement on Sunday. The measures defined AI-generated synthetic content as information such as text, images, audio, video, and virtual scenes created or synthesized using AI technology.

The platform will also provide corresponding prompts for content that may be AI-generated, helping users clearly identify it.
The platform reminded users that they must proactively make a declaration when publishing AI-generated or synthetic content.
The measures also stipulate that users must not delete, alter, forge, or conceal the AI labels added by the platform in any way when publishing or sharing AI-generated synthetic content.
Nor may they use AI to produce or spread false or infringing information, or engage in any illegal or non-compliant activities.
