On September 4, a video circulated online showing two foreign travelers pushing bicycles onto a high-speed train at Guangyuan Railway Station, accompanied by captions suggesting "differential treatment" and triggering heated discussion among netizens.
In response, the Guangyuan Passenger Transport Section of China Railway Chengdu Group issued a statement clarifying the incident.
According to the notice, on the morning of September 4 at 8:35 a.m., two foreign passengers arrived at Guangyuan Station to board train D1046 bound for Zhangjiakou. As their arrival was close to the train's departure time, and one of the passengers had an injured hand that prevented disassembly of the bicycle wheels, they sought assistance from station staff.
With the help of railway personnel, the travelers pushed their bicycles—used as makeshift luggage carts—onto the platform and boarded the train. Once on board, with the assistance of train crew members, the bicycles were disassembled and secured. The railway authorities emphasized that the process did not affect other passengers' travel experience.
The statement expressed gratitude for public attention and supervision, pledging to further improve railway passenger services.
Rules on Carrying Bicycles by Train
China Railway's official ticketing platform, 12306, provides clear guidelines on bringing bicycles aboard:
1.Bicycles must be disassembled (front and rear wheels removed) and properly packaged before entering the station. The packed bicycle must comply with luggage limits: 20 kg for adults, 10 kg for children, with total dimensions not exceeding 160 cm (130 cm for high-speed trains). Items exceeding these limits must be shipped as freight.
2.Riding or pushing bicycles inside stations or train carriages is strictly prohibited, as is any conduct that endangers public safety.
3.Bicycles may not occupy aisles or seats and must be stored under seats or in designated luggage areas.
