A woman in Chengdu, China, is suffering from depression and anxiety after two male window cleaners accidentally saw her sleeping naked in her apartment, according to her husband.
The couple lives in the upscale Port Apartment complex, where they pay a monthly rent of ¥10,000.
The incident occurred on the morning of April 25. At the time, the woman—who typically sleeps without pyjamas—was asleep in their bedroom with the curtains open and the lights on.
Her husband, surnamed Cheng, was in the living room when he heard her scream.
Rushing to the bedroom, he discovered that two window cleaners working outside had seen her and were staring.
He quickly closed the curtains.
The couple had been informed by property management that the exterior glass cleaning would occur sometime between April 21 and 30, and they had specifically requested advance notice before cleaners arrived.
However, on the day of the incident, no notification was given—despite assurances from management that they would alert the couple.
Following the incident, the woman was diagnosed with depression and anxiety in May, and her mental health has remained fragile.
The couple demanded a public apology and "reasonable" compensation from the property management firm.
In response, the firm initially offered only a fruit basket and a private apology, with no acknowledgement of the emotional impact on the woman.
The tension came to a head as their lease contract neared its end in August.
After the story went viral on social media, management offered a rent reduction of ¥600 per month if the couple renewed their lease.
Mr Cheng dismissed this offer as inadequate and criticised the lack of genuine concern for his wife's mental state.
