Love Delivered: Chinese Delivery Rider Marries American Customer

In a cross-cultural romance that's captivated social media, a 27-year-old food delivery rider from Shenyang, Liaoning, has gone viral after sharing his unlikely love story with his now-wife, an American preschool teacher named Hannah.

The couple's story began on November 6, 2024, when Hannah placed an order for cold noodles via a local delivery app. Liu, the delivery rider, was assigned the order. Their first meeting took place in an elevator of a residential complex in Hunnan District, where Liu boldly greeted her with, "Hello, I love you," despite barely speaking English. The spontaneous line sparked laughter, and an unexpected connection.

Using translation tools, Liu and Hannah began chatting via the app and later on WeChat. Hannah, 30, originally from Alabama, was working at a local kindergarten in Shenyang. The two discovered common interests in animals, food, and outdoor activities. Liu shared photos of his cats, homemade Chinese dishes, and skating videos, while Hannah introduced him to American meals like burgers and stews.

Their bond grew quickly. During the harsh winter, with temperatures dropping below -20°C, Hannah often accompanied Liu on his delivery runs. Weekends were spent exploring Chinese villages and experiencing local culture. In January 2025, Liu proposed at a subway station with a diamond ring, and on March 28, the couple tied the knot in Liu's hometown of Fushun. Although Hannah's parents couldn't attend, they sent heartfelt blessings via video.

The couple now live with their teddy dog "Pudding" and continue to blend cultures in their daily lives. Liu still works as a delivery rider, while Hannah often cooks American meals and helps Liu improve his English. Every evening, they teach each other five phrases in their native languages.

Liu's videos have drawn widespread admiration online, with the most liked clip reaching over 130,000 likes. He attributes their successful relationship to sincerity and boldness. "Love requires courage," Liu says. "I just told her how I felt."

Looking ahead, Liu dreams of traveling China with Hannah and helping her achieve her goal of becoming a published writer. "Even if I don't fully understand her stories, I believe in her dream," he said.
