How to get your police check in Changsha
A commonly asked question at WNIC is where expats can get a criminal record check, a criminal record clearance certificate, by local police. Here, thanks to the efforts and feedback from some Changsha-based foreigners, we have gathered some info that might help you get your own document.
Do I need to make an appointment?
No appointment is needed. You can go during working hours (typically Monday-Friday but beware of busier work days around National holidays).
How do I get started? What should I do?
Firstly, you'll need to find the main police station belonging to the district in Changsha which your accommodation certificate belongs. For example, if you live in Yuhua district, rather than going to the local police station where you had to register within 24 hours of returning from abroad, you'll need to find and go to the main district police station (we have included main districts below; Changsha County police station is based in Xingsha).
If you are alone, after entering the station tell the reception desk that you need to obtain a criminal record clearance certificate for work purposes (as this is the best reason to apply for a certificate). You should then be directed to the correct window.
How long do I have to wait for the certificate?
In fact, the whole process could take as little as half an hour meaning you could get the certificate on the spot. Thus, allow for plenty of time at the station in case you can complete it without need to visit again.
What documents should I show or prepare?
Required documents: If you go in person, bring your valid passport. If you entrust someone else to handle it, you need a power of attorney signed and sealed by you, your passport and the identity document of the trustee. If you have just obtained a new passport, and you have both the old and new passports in your possession, make sure to bring both of them along. It may also be prudent to bring several other documents in case they ask, such as your current accommodation certificate and work permit, if any.

How can I find my relevant main police station?
You can copy/paste the below URL into your browser and find the police station that you need. You may need to translate the page. We have provided a list of the district branch and main police stations, from the website list, below:

You can see an interactive map detailing each police station location. You could then copy/paste the name of the station into a car-hailing app, such as Didi.
