Liu Xiajun, a 20-year-old national sprint athlete, has been admitted to Peking University after excelling in both sports and academics—earning praise for her discipline.
Known as the "track and field sweet sister" for her talent and looks, Liu gained recognition after setting a 100m record in her hometown of Ziyang, Sichuan, in 2018. However, her rigorous training schedule left her academic performance behind top students.
Last year, she turned down an offer from Shanghai's Fudan University, opting instead to retake the gaokao (national college entrance exam) to aim for Peking University. Despite the lower score requirement for athlete admissions (460/750), achieving it was challenging. In July, she scored 462, securing her place at Peking University's School of Journalism and Communication.

Liu admitted balancing studies and training was tough. "Others had time for practice tests; I squeezed in study sessions during workouts, stretching, and even medical treatments," she said. Her perseverance paid off—she credits sports for teaching her "focus and resilience, which matter more than grades."
Her achievements include a 100m silver medal (11.73s) at the 2023 China Youth Sports Meet and gold (11.75s) at the 2023 National U20 Championship.
Online, fans hailed her as the "ideal idol"—a model of self-discipline and dual excellence. One wrote, "Training before dawn and after dusk—your dedication defines strength."
