Chinese man’s affair exposed when store notifies wife

A man in southern China unintentionally exposed his extramarital affair when a failed payment for birth control pills led to an awkward phone call with his wife. The incident occurred at Dashenlin Pharmacy's Pinggang branch in Yangjiang, Guangdong province, when the man tried to discreetly purchase contraceptive pills using his mobile payment code.

The transaction, which amounted to 15.8 yuan (approximately US$2.20), failed due to a "system problem," preventing the payment from processing. To recover the cost, pharmacy staff contacted the phone number associated with the man's membership card. However, this led to an unintended slip-up: the number belonged to his wife, who was immediately informed about the purchase.

The wife, understandably puzzled, inquired about the transaction, and the pharmacy staff confirmed that the purchase was for contraceptive pills. This disclosure directly exposed the man's infidelity, unraveling his secret affair. The lengths of both his marriage and the affair have not been revealed.

In his defense, the man took to social media, posting a video where he explained that the failed payment was a technical issue. He argued that the pharmacy had violated his privacy by revealing details about the purchase, which he claimed directly led to the breakdown of two families. The man expressed his anger, stating, "Now my wife knows everything, and two families are on the brink of disintegration. I want to know—does your pharmacy bear any responsibility?"

Along with his post, the man shared evidence: a receipt for the purchase, a screenshot of the conversation between the pharmacy clerk and his wife, and a police report from the Pinggang Police Station issued on August 12. Despite his frustration, legal experts believe the case is unlikely to succeed in court.

Fu Jian, a lawyer from Henan Zejin Law Firm, explained that while the man could technically seek legal action, his claim is complicated. "On one hand, his infidelity is the primary reason for the family breakdown, and he must take responsibility for that. On the other hand, if the pharmacy did breach his privacy, they could be held accountable," said Fu. However, Fu pointed out that the phone call made by the pharmacy staff appeared to be a standard attempt to recover payment and not an intentional leak of information. As such, proving a direct link between the pharmacy's actions and the marriage collapse would be difficult.

This incident quickly became a viral sensation on Chinese social media, where many commenters mocked the man for his actions.

One person wrote, "This is hilarious—he cheats and still thinks he's in the right? What a drama king.

Two families fell apart because of his own mistakes.

What does the store clerk have to do with it?" Another commenter said, "I'm dying of laughter. Bro, you totally deserve this." A third user added, "He cheats on his wife, doesn't even buy his own condoms, uses his wife's membership card, and then blames the store when he gets caught. What a joke!"

This scandal has led to a broader conversation about privacy, responsibility, and infidelity in Chinese society.

While the man's affair may have been the root cause of the family collapse, his attempt to shift the blame to the pharmacy has sparked widespread derision and disbelief.
