BREAKING: China Introduces New K Visa for Foreigners, Starting Oct 1

Chinese Premier Li Qiang recently signed a State Council decree promulgating the Decision of the State Council on Amending the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners (hereinafter referred to as the "Decision"), which will come into effect on October 1, 2025.

The Decision consists of two provisions:

It establishes a new category under ordinary visas — the K visa — specifically issued to young foreign science and technology talent entering China.

It stipulates that applicants for the K visa must meet the conditions and requirements defined by the competent Chinese government departments for foreign young sci-tech talent and must provide corresponding supporting documents.

Decision of the State Council on Amending the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners

The State Council has decided to amend the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners as follows:

Article 6 shall include a new item, designated as Item 6:
"(6) K visa, issued to young foreign science and technology talent entering the country."

The first paragraph of Article 7 shall include a new item, also designated as Item 6:
"(6) Applicants for a K visa shall meet the conditions and requirements for foreign young science and technology talent as specified by the competent Chinese government departments and shall submit corresponding supporting materials."

This Decision shall come into effect on October 1, 2025.

The Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners shall be amended accordingly and republished with adjusted article numbers.
