At Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, foreign travelers are now able to complete immigration procedures in just two minutes, thanks to a newly launched smart entry system.

"It's much faster than filling out the card by hand. Other passengers who landed at the same time as me were still writing, and I was already done." Foreign traveler Victoria shared her experience at the immigration hall of Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, where she completed her entry process in under two minutes using the new electronic foreigner arrival card system.

This digital system, developed and implemented by immigration authorities in less than a month, is part of ongoing efforts to build a smarter border control experience. Foreign travelers simply place their passports on a document reader, which automatically extracts personal information from the ID page—no handwriting required. The system also intelligently detects the official language of the passport-issuing country and translates the arrival card accordingly, making it easier for foreigners to understand and complete the form accurately.

Since its launch over four months ago, tens of thousands of foreign travelers have benefited from the system, which cuts form-filling time by 60% to 80% and significantly boosts overall immigration efficiency.

According to official data, over 3.21 million people passed through Shenzhen Airport's border checkpoint in the first half of this year—a year-on-year increase of 30%, setting a new record for the port. Among them, more than 210,000 visa-free entries by foreign nationals were recorded, a 154% year-on-year surge, ranking Shenzhen among the top major airports in China for visa-free travel growth.
