China issues blue alert as Tropical Storm Danas forms, the fourth of 2025.
The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) issued a blue alert for typhoon activity at 6:00 a.m. on July 5, following the formation of this year's fourth typhoon, "Danas," which developed from a tropical depression over the northeastern part of the South China Sea at approximately 2:00 a.m. today.
Danas is forecast to move slowly northward at a speed of 5–10 kilometers per hour, gradually intensifying. It is expected to shift toward the north-northeast this afternoon, strengthening further to reach typhoon intensity, with maximum winds of 33–38 meters per second (forces 12–13). The storm is likely to approach the coastal areas between southwestern Taiwan and northern Fujian.
Wind Forecast (08:00 July 5 – 08:00 July 6):
Strong winds of force 7–9 are expected in the eastern and southern parts of the South China Sea, the southern Taiwan Strait, the western Bashi Channel, and the coastal waters of eastern Guangdong, southern Fujian, and southern Taiwan Island. Areas near the center of Danas may experience winds reaching force 10–12, with gusts up to force 13.
Rainfall Forecast (08:00 July 5 – 08:00 July 6):
Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of southeastern Taiwan, southern Fujian, and eastern Guangdong, with localized torrential to extreme rainfall in southeastern Taiwan ranging from 100 to 180 millimeters.
Precautionary Guidelines:
1.Government departments and emergency response teams should implement typhoon preparedness and rescue measures as per their responsibilities.
2.Maritime operations and vessels in affected areas should return to port, reinforce harbor facilities, and take precautions against anchor dragging, grounding, or collisions.
3.Outdoor activities, especially large gatherings and high-altitude operations, should be suspended.
4.Temporary structures should be reinforced or dismantled. Residents are advised to remain indoors in windproof, safe locations. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children should stay in the safest part of their homes, and those in dangerous buildings should be evacuated in time. Even if winds appear to calm as the typhoon eye passes, dangerous gusts may return suddenly—remain sheltered until it is safe.
5.Areas at risk should remain vigilant for potential secondary disasters such as flash floods and landslides caused by intense rainfall.
