Typhoon Danas, the fourth typhoon of the year, is expected to make landfall twice, according to the National Meteorological Centre.
At around midnight on July 7, Typhoon Danas made its first landfall along the coast of Chiayi County in Taiwan Province. By the time it came ashore, its intensity had weakened from a severe typhoon to a regular typhoon, with maximum wind speeds near the center reaching Force 13 (40 meters per second).
On the morning of July 7, the National Meteorological Centre continued to issue a yellow typhoon warning. Danas is forecast to move north-northeast at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour while gradually weakening in strength. From the morning of July 8, the typhoon is expected to shift direction toward the west-southwest, approaching coastal areas between Taizhou in Zhejiang Province and Fuzhou in Fujian Province. It is likely to make a second landfall in this region between the afternoon and evening of July 8, bringing wind speeds of Force 8 to 9 (18 to 23 meters per second), equivalent to a tropical storm.
As Danas moves northward, weather conditions across Fujian and Zhejiang provinces are expected to worsen, with increasing rainfall and strong winds. Over the next three days, heavy rain is forecast across southern and central Taiwan, coastal areas of central and northern Fujian, and central, southern, and eastern parts of Zhejiang. Some regions may experience torrential rain.
Following the second landfall and subsequent weakening, the remnants of Danas are expected to linger. From July 9 to 11, significant rainfall may sweep westward across South China. However, there remains uncertainty about the exact path of the typhoon's remnants and how long their influence will persist. As such, the intensity and distribution of rainfall in the coming days remain unpredictable and warrant close monitoring.
