As of the end of June this year, 3,716 foreign nationals engaged in business in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, have been officially recognized as skilled talent by the city.
According to Wang Liqin, Head of the Talent and Cooperation Division at Yiwu's Science and Technology Bureau, foreign investors (businesspeople) may apply for Category A recognition if they meet criteria such as an annual corporate turnover exceeding 50 million yuan and a personal annual salary of at least 600,000 yuan. Other qualifying factors include having operated in Zhejiang for over 10 consecutive years, hiring more than 10 local employees, and maintaining an annual salary of no less than 600,000 yuan.
"For Category B talent, foreign investors (businesspeople) must meet conditions such as an annual foreign exchange settlement exceeding USD 500,000, annual import-export volume of over 10 million yuan, or having run a business in Zhejiang for over two years while employing and enrolling at least two Chinese staff in social insurance," said Wang.
Under current policies, foreign nationals recognized as Category A talent in Yiwu are eligible for a five-year work permit, along with priority in administrative approvals and key recommendation services. Category B talent are entitled to work permits ranging from two to four years.
Yiwu, often dubbed the "World's Supermarket," maintains trade links with more than 230 countries and regions. On average, over 28,000 foreign nationals are present in the city each day—accounting for about one-fifth of all foreigners in Zhejiang Province. In recent years, leveraging its comprehensive reform in international trade, Yiwu launched a pilot program in September 2024 to evaluate and recognize foreign business talent, aiming to attract more international investors to the city.
