A man who robbed HK$382,000 ($48,670) from a Hang Seng Bank branch in Hong Kong was arrested on Tuesday night, the Hong Kong Police Force confirmed with the Global Times on Wednesday morning. Local media outlet Ta Kung Pao in Hong Kong said the HKPF and mainland police joined forces to crack down the case.According to Ta Kung Pao, the bank robber who fled to the mainland was caught in Shenzhen Tueaday noon and was escorted back to Hong Kong by Shenzhen authorities for handover on Tuesday night. The suspect's girlfriend, who is believed to be an accomplice, was arrested by the Hong Kong police when she returned to Hong Kong from the mainland Tuesday afternoon, the newspaper said.
The robbery was reported at a bank located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong on Monday afternoon where a 35-year-old female bank staff member sustained a neck injury after being allegedly held at knifepoint by a suspect wielding a 30 cm-long knife, the Hong Kong Police Force confirmed with the Global Times on Wednesday.Hong Kong police did not mention the handover from Shenzhen police in its email sent to the Global Times but said they arrested a 49-year-old local man surnamed Chow in Tin Shui Wai on Tuesday evening on suspicion of robbery and attempted burglary.
Chow is also believed to be connected to an attempted burglary case that occurred in Tseung Kwan O on Monday, which took place prior to the bank robbery.
Ta Kung Pao reported that the burglary attempt failed and no one was hurt.
Additionally, a 34-year-old local woman surnamed Lai was arrested in Ta Kwu Ling on Tuesday on suspicion of assisting an offender, the Hong Kong police said.
The police revealed that all arrested individuals are currently in custody for further investigation.
