Grand Highway Bridge Collapses in Guizhou, Truck Dangling Over Gap

A section of a highway bridge on the G76 Xiarong Expressway in Sandu Shui Autonomous County, Guizhou Province, has partially collapsed early this morning, leaving a red truck precariously suspended over a massive breach in the road.

Eyewitness footage circulating online shows the truck's cab jutting out into open space, with the driver still inside. Bystanders were heard shouting warnings, urging the driver not to move and to wait for rescue teams due to poor signal and dangerous conditions. Below, two smaller vehicles had reportedly plunged from the broken section.

According to media reports, it was raining heavily at the time of the collapse. At approximately 7:40 AM, sustained torrential rainfall triggered a landslide, causing the Monkey River Grand Bridge's approach section to give way. Surveillance teams had detected bridge deformation at 5:51 AM and initiated traffic control measures shortly after. By 7:11 AM, both directions were sealed off.

Guizhou authorities confirmed that one freight truck was on the bridge during the collapse and that the driver has been safely rescued. Below the bridge, three construction vehicles were found—with no occupants—likely belonging to nearby villages.

Emergency services, including police, transportation, and firefighting departments, have responded swiftly. Drone reconnaissance confirmed no individuals were trapped in the fallen vehicles. Investigations into the exact cause are underway.

Meanwhile, local officials report severe disruptions: power outages, damaged roads, and broken network communications in affected areas. Satellite phones are being used to coordinate rescue and assessment operations.

Authorities have rerouted traffic from Guangxi to Guiyang and issued temporary travel controls.
