Chongqing Driver Detained After Fatal Confrontation
Following a dispute over continuous honking, a driver in Chongqing's Banan district struck and killed a pedestrian and injured four others while trying to flee the scene.
According to a police report released Sunday, the suspect has been taken into custody as the investigation continues.
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Saturday when a 38-year-old man, identified by the surname Xiong, encountered a delivery vehicle blocking his way at the entrance of a residential area.
Frustrated, he honked repeatedly, which provoked nearby pedestrians.
A group of people approached Xiong's car and an argument broke out. As tensions escalated, Xiong tried to drive away, hitting several individuals who attempted to stop him.
Police responded promptly, apprehended Xiong, and arranged medical care for the injured.
Despite emergency efforts, one person died, while the other four suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.
