After the earthquake, the local government in Eryuan county activated a Level III emergency response for earthquake relief, according to media reports.
The Dali detachment and Eryuan brigade of Yunnan fire and rescue have rushed to the epicenter. No casualties have been reported so far, the reports said.
Many Chinese netizens reported strong tremors, saying they were "shaken awake" and "too scared to go back to sleep."
"The bed shook violently during the night, but the tremor lasted only about 10 seconds before it ended," a netizen called Francesca on China's lifestyle-oriented platform Xiaohongshu, or RedNote, told the Global Times on Thursday.
Although she was in Eryuan, she was still some distance from the epicenter, the netizen said.
According to an official statement published on the Yunnan's fire and rescue corps on Thursday, its command center promptly gathered information and verified the situation. A total of 23 vehicles, 100 personnel, and three rescue dogs were dispatched to the epicenter to assess the disaster.
